Neocaridina feeding deepening

NeocaridinaEvidence under review

Scope: mandatory shrimp diet/feeding lane only; zero strain-count effect.

Biofilm evidence continuity

A 2016 controlled zero-water-exchange study on Neocaridina heteropoda heteropoda (the older taxonomic usage associated with the red-cherry shrimp complex now commonly treated as N. davidi) tested polyethylene net, PET and agrovelo as biofilm substrates. Biofilm contributed to nitrogen uptake and dissolved oxygen and supported high shrimp survival, reproduction and hatching. Final biomass was significantly higher in the PN and AV treatments, while growth rate and shrimp lipid

Claim class: EVIDENCE-BACKED / CONTROLLED BIOFILM-CULTURE EVIDENCE. This strengthens the existing 2020 N. davidi record by showing earlier controlled continuity, but it does not prove that every aquarium can omit supplemental feed.

Dietary synbiotic trial

A 2022 30-day controlled trial used 270 Neocaridina davidi across nine diet groups and tested galacto-oligosaccharide (GOS) alone or combined with Bacillus clausii. Several supplemented groups improved growth indices relative to control, and the reported 2 g GOS + 1 ml probiotic combinations produced favorable growth/FCR/survival endpoints in the tested design.

Claim class: EVIDENCE-BACKED FOR THE TESTED FORMULATIONS / EXPERIMENTAL FEED ADDITIVE. Do not convert the commercial probiotic used by the study into a universal aquarium recommendation, fixed dose, or "best" feed claim.
