Caridina controlled-diet evidence deepening

CaridinaEvidence under review

Scope: mandatory Caridina/Taiwan Bee feeding lane. Species-level controlled evidence only; zero strain-count effect. Append-only; does not overwrite prior digestive-physiology or manufacturer-claim records.

Taiwan Bee — dietary choline supplementation (controlled)

Hong, Song & Wu (2016) report a 4-month controlled feeding trial on Taiwan Bee shrimp identified as Caridina cf. serrata (0.9 ± 0.02 cm start length). Six diets supplied 0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2.5 and 5 g/kg choline chloride, yielding analyzed choline levels of 2.11, 2.33, 2.52, 3.01, 4.53 and 7.14 g/kg diet.

Authors suggest an optimum around 3.01 g/kg dietary choline for the tested system.

Claim class: EVIDENCE-BACKED / CONTROLLED FORMULATED-DIET TRIAL, ENDPOINT-SPECIFIC. This narrows the prior Caridina complete-diet gap for one micronutrient. It does not establish a universal commercial-brand ranking, a complete macronutrient target, a Crystal Red vs Taiwan Bee grade split, or a requirement to dose choline chloride outside a balanced diet. Taxonomic label is Caridina cf. serrata as published — do not silently rewrite to C. cantonensis.

Caridina cantonensis larvae — Ca-alginate microencapsulated first feed (controlled)

Kattakdad, Jintasataporn, Worawattanamateekul & Chumkam (2018) compared a Ca-alginate microencapsulated diet (MED), an artificial diet (~28% protein), and shell-free Artemia for 1 dph Caridina cantonensis larvae over 60 days (3 treatments × 5 replicates; twice-daily feeding).

Reported outcomes (study-specific): MED produced higher enzyme activities (protease, amylase, lipase) than the other diets (P < 0.05); growth/survival comparisons are taken only as published and not generalized beyond the larval nursing system.

Claim class: EVIDENCE-BACKED / CONTROLLED LARVAL FIRST-FEED TRIAL, STUDY-SPECIFIC. Useful for early-life Caridina nursing context. Does not prescribe adult Taiwan Bee rations, prove superiority of any retail ornamental brand, or replace biofilm/detritus ecology evidence.
